2009 TG County Junior Livestock Show

The beginning of Stockshow season is kicked off with our County Stockshow. As you read in my earlier post we had some GREAT hope of placing some lambs high in their weight classes. We began by literally "hitting the wall". That is what we call it when the judge walks by and looks at the lamb and motions for it to move to the wall. That means he doesn't want to see it anymore. Nolan "hit the wall" early in the morning. We were bummed to say the least.
Karli got a 2nd place in the lightweight crossbred class.

Then they went head to head in the heavy-lightweight and Nolan came in with a 4th place and Karli came in with 2nd place.
We were feeling better about ourselves at this point. Karli & Nolan both were showing their hearts out. Ron and I were so proud to watch their intesity and focus. Then came the Southdown division. They went head to head in the lightweight class. Nolan came up with 2nd place and Karli came up with 1st place. With those placing both of them got to take their lambs to the Breed Championship drive. To our excitement Karli and her lamb came in as CHAMPION SOUTHDOWN!!
To say that Ron and I were pleased with our kids efforts is an understatement. We are really pumped going into San Antonio Stockshow 3 weeks from today, then it's San Angelo and onto Houston Stockshow in March. Be watching for results.

Surprise....Surprise....Surprise

Okay, like I said in the last post. We sheared our lambs this past Tuesday and we were a little concerned about what we would find underneath all their wool. Well below that 5-6 inch fluffy coat of wool there were sheep with VERY well defined muscles. To say the least, Ron and I are very pleased and very excited about this weekend's stock show. I promise to post results and pictures as soon as I can.

What's Up.....

Wow...can't believe it's been so long since I last posted. I'm not real sure where the time has gone or what I have accomplished since my last blog. The week after Thanksgiving and Karli's birthday my MawMaw passed away. I realize how fortune I am to have had my grandparents as long as I have. Now I have the honor of having my PawPaw living in the same town as me. I am enjoying popping in each evening to visit with him. He seems to be adjusting pretty well.

Our Christmas was really quite quiet. We stayed here at home and enjoyed time with my parents and even took in Marley & Me on Christmas evening.

We are now in full "Stock Show" mode. Karli & Nolan have their first show next Thursday. We'll shear all 6 lambs on Tuesday afternoon and show on Thursday night and then all day Saturday. Shearing is always a BIG job!! We are really kind of excited to see our lambs without their wool. We usually shear around the end of October, but didn't this year. All the lambs have about 4-5 inches of wool on them, and with all of that covering them we can't really get any idea of how their muscular development is looking. We may have some surpises awaiting us....I hope they're GOOD surprises.
